CCR Undertakes Industry Skills and Training Needs Project for WASEA

On behalf of the Western Australian Sustainable Energy Association (WASEA), CCR is undertaking an Office of Energy funded project to determine what skills are required by the sustainable energy industry in Western Australia and what gaps need to be addressed. This will in turn provide the information needed for developing strategies to ensure an appropriate supply of suitably skilled individuals is available to meet the expected increase in demand over coming years. The project is expected to be completed by the end of November 2010.

In the absence of a clear national response to reducing greenhouse gas emissions businesses are seeing the opportunity to position themselves as leaders ahead of their competitors through becoming accredited as Carbon Neutral. The recent announcement of a Federal Government initiative provides a mechanism for formal accreditation of Carbon Neutrality for organisations and/or products.

Energy Efficiency Opportunities Program Verifications Commence

The Department of Energy Resources and Tourism (DRET) has commenced desktop verifications of companies in the Energy Efficiency Opportunities program. The Department will contact approximately 100 companies to participate in desktop verification. This is about 45% of companies currently enrolled in the program. Companies will be asked to complete a ‘Verification Checklist and information Request form’ to provide DRET with the necessary information.

NGERS Threshold for Corporations Reduces Again

The National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER) period deadline for the 2009/10 financial year is now over, and the corporate threshold will drop again for the 2010/11 financial year. Companies who exceeded the reporting threshold for the last financial year should have successfully reported by the 31st October 2010 deadline. Those companies who may exceed the new threshold should determine if they will do so, and begin to prepare now.

Commercial Building Disclosure Program Commences

The Building Energy Efficiency Disclosure Act 2010 commenced on the 1st July 2010 and is being implemented through the Commercial Building Disclosure (CBD) program. The first phase of implementation involves disclosure for large commercial office buildings (2,000 metres square or larger) and commences on the 1st November 2010.

CSIRO and BOM Issue Joint Statement on Australia's Climate

On the 15th of March 2010 the heads of the CSIRO and the Bureau of Meteorology released an unprecedented joint ‘snapshot’ of Australia’s climate as a statement of their confidence in the evidence underpinning climate change. The snapshot outlines key indicators of climate change for Australia including sea level rise, changing rainfall patterns and temperature.

Prime Minister’s Task Group on Energy Efficiency Launched
